Christmas Parade FloatThe annual Tellico Plains Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec 17, 2016, at 3 pm. Lots of new activities premier this year. Leading the parade and riding in an antique sleigh will be WBIR-TV weatherman Todd Howell.

New Parade Route

Parade-goers can line up in many places along the route. This year’s Parade begins at Myers Funeral Home, proceeding up the hill to Willowbrook Drive. From Willowbrook Drive the parade goes left onto Veterans Memorial Drive. It winds through downtown, then turns right onto Babcock Street. As it enters the Cherohala Skyway across from Skyway Realty, it turns left. From the Cherohala Skyway the Parade enters Bank Street (beside Volunteer Federal Bank), finally ending near the Community Center.

Horses and Wagons are always a favorite part of the Christmas Parade. New this year, the “Best Decorated Horse” award of $50 will be given in honor of Charles Hall. In addition, many floats are participating, including the award winning floats of Chota Community Health Services and Center Presbyterian Church. Floats by internationally known local Topiary Joe, our local SongFarmers group, and others are joining the parade. Come see these and others! Floats will also be competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes of $200, $100, and $50.

Parade-goers should bring a bag as some participants will be tossing goodies into the crowd.

Fun Post-Parade Festivities

After the parade, all are welcome at the Community Center for the free “Cookies ‘n’ Claus Celebration.” Christmas music, presented by McKee Promotions, will serenade folks at this event. Visit with Santa and have a photo taken, make a thumbprint ornament, enjoy the hot chocolate provide by Senior Solutions Management Group and cookies and coffee provided by Tellicafe. David Taylor will be giving the little folks train rides on his Christmas Barrel Train too. It’s a fun holiday event for the entire family.

The Parade and after-Parade festivities are sponsored and organized by the Tellico Plains Kiwanis Club. For more information contact any Kiwanis member or contact Kent at 865-603-5368 or
